One base could be sufficient, especially with the plywood supporting the top. Sizing of the base will depend on the orientation you want the base to go, it could be oriented to look like a "+" from the top down, or like an "X" from the top down. You also have the option of having the base made to be asymmetric, so it could be elongated to fit the rectangular top more uniformly, possibly even negating the need for plywood.
